Lynndon Grove Angora Stud has been established at Moonta since

1996.

The Property of 27 acres is 3 Kilometres North of Moonta on Yorke Peninsula South Australia in a 12-14 inch Rainfall area. Mediterranean Climate is best suited to Angora Goats

Winter crops are grown on the property for grazing of kidded does. A Hay crop is also planted each year to cover the summer hand feeding.

Lynne had farmed Angora goats commercially in Esperance in W.A. from 1986 –1989 and returned to South Australia to continue to farm Angoras and establish an Angora Goat Stud.

Lynne and Don have been an active within the industry as a members of Mohair Australia for number of years

Their genetic input has been extensive with Texan and South African contributing to the development of large framed animals with quality soft handling mohair. (picture)

Lynne and Don are committed to continue to improve their herd with the consistent selection of  progressive sires to enhance their aim to breed for the future of the angora and mohair quality.

They carry approximately 130 breeding does along with yearlings and doe kids from the previous year's drop

The flock is culled very heavily with the buck kids assessed early and at regular intervals through the fleece growth to achieve a final selection of 5-6 top yearling bucks for sale per year.

The stud is working towards a micron range of under 30 microns with SD 5-6 and CV’s below 20.

They are very mindful of closely monitoring their breeding program and only introducing sires that meet their “Angora  purity and type” specifications.

Sires can be an outcross of a Lynndon Grove sire from another stud or a home bred buck as long as the breeding will have the qualities required to maintain their position at the top of the industry.

Herd production figures from the Angora flock is approx 850 kilos of mohair each year from 200-250 mixed aged animals

Lynne and Don have travelled interstate to the two major Mohair Australia Industry Shows since 1999 Australasian in Victoria and the National Angora Trophy and Sale at Goulburn in NSW

The success of the Stud has been evident being placed with major Championship awards: The Airlie Cup Breeders Trophy (twice): The coveted Kammrock Trophy Breeders group {twice}. {see Photo Gallery for show photos}
